Two Ore. Cops Hit by Impaired Drivers in Separate Crashes, Same Scene

Nov. 15, 2021
A vehicle collided with a Portland police officer as he was pulling out of a parking lot, and another officer was struck while investigating the first accident.

Two Oregon police officers were struck by two different impaired drivers in separate crashes at the same accident scene late Sunday.

The first incident happened as a Portland officer was exiting a parking lot with his cruiser's emergency lights and siren on, KPTV-TV reports. That's when a driver who was allegedly under the influence collided with the patrol car.

The officer was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. He was later released.

The 51-year-old driver of the other vehicle also was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. She was cited for driving under the influence and reckless driving.

While police were investigating the collision, officers interviewed witnesses on the sidewalk in front of a residential driveway. An upset driver pulled up and yelled for everyone to get off his property.

Before the people could move, the driver drove into the group and struck an officer. Police arrested the 46-year-old driver, who scuffled with officers and needed to be subdued with an EMD device. He was charged with driving under influence, reckless driving and resisting arrested, and more charges could be added as the investigation continues.

The officer was uninjured in the second incident.
